Affogato

Affogato

Affogato is barely a recipe: hot espresso poured over cold gelato, table-side. A few drops of EVOSÌ on top isn't traditional, but its light, delicate finish is a genuinely good match for the bitterness of the shot.

Ingredients

  • 4 scoops vanilla gelato
  • 2 shots hot espresso
  • EVOSÌ, for drizzling
  • Chocolate shavings, optional

Instructions

  1. Scoop the vanilla gelato into two small glasses or bowls, dividing it evenly.
  2. Brew the espresso hot, timing it so it's ready just before serving, the contrast of hot and cold is the whole point.
  3. Bring the glasses to the table and pour a shot of hot espresso directly over each portion of gelato right in front of your guests.
  4. Immediately finish with a few drops of EVOSÌ and a scatter of chocolate shavings if using.
  5. Serve at once with a spoon, while the espresso is still hot and the gelato is just beginning to melt.
