Caprese Salad

Caprese Salad

Caprese salad is only as good as its ingredients: ripe tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, and a generous pour of oil. Polifemo's tomato notes echo the dish's core ingredient directly, an easy, obvious pairing.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 pound fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup Polifemo
  • Flaky salt and black pepper
  • Balsamic glaze, optional

Instructions

  1. Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella into rounds of similar thickness, about 1/4 inch.
  2. Arrange them on a platter, alternating tomato and mozzarella slices in a slightly overlapping pattern.
  3. Tuck whole basil leaves between the slices as you go.
  4. Drizzle the entire platter generously with Polifemo.
  5. Season with flaky salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
  6. Finish with a drizzle of balsamic glaze if using, and serve immediately at room temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the quality of ingredients matter?

Yes, use the ripest tomatoes and best mozzarella you can find, there's nothing to hide behind here.

Should the mozzarella be cold or room temperature?

Room temperature. Cold mozzarella loses a lot of its flavor.

How should I serve this?

As a starter or alongside grilled bread.
